Dear NCSY TJJ Lion Pride,
We’re nearing the end of this incredible experience!! All the more reason to pack every day amazing moments and the last 2 days have been no exception!
Our first stop of the day was one of our 4 holiest cities – Hevron! We had our extra security and were on our way. And as a real treat, we had the opportunity to hear from our NCSY special guest for the day, Rabbi Lishak whose powerful speech left our TJJers understanding the significance of this holy place; the city that contains me’arat machpelah where the majority of our forefathers and foremothers are buried. On top of that, our super guides discussed the complex israel-arab conflict that affects the city and the various massacres and major events that have taken place in it. It was clear to the TJJers that Hevron is a very complex place with a lot of geo-political nuances.
Afterwards, we made our way to kfar etzion, a kibbutz with a long history that was established in 1927. We learnt about the kibbutz values and movement. But we knew that a lot of the TJJers already had their minds on our next destination – the famous zipline that produces some of the best and funniest videos every year! How? Simple… ziplining 600 meters across and 120 meters over a lush valley filled with trees and wildlife is only for the brave and courageous! But the TJJers loved the thrill!!
The day wasn’t over yet! After dinner back at the hotel, we were introduced to a speaker, famous for his efforts in Israel advocacy – Colonel Benzi Gruber. He discussed the great lengths Israel takes to always be as moral and ethical as can be even in the most tense moments of counter-terrorism. The TJJers heard first hand accounts that left them both impressed and profoundly moved by the soldiers who do everything they can to protect our country and people.
On Friday we visited the grave of Rachel our foremother whose love and mercy for her Jewish children is documented and legendary. Our singing by her grave movingly brought many different Jews from all backgrounds to come together join in song – a special moment that the TJJers will never forget. From there, it was off to Machane yehuda and Geulah for chaotic pre-shabbat shopping – an experience like no other!
Then back to the hotel to prepare for our last shabbat in Israel together! No doubt the power of the previous days will come together to make this week’s shabbat spirit and atmosphere the best yet!
Another pair of amazing days and we can’t help but realise our time in Israel together is nearly over. But we’re not checked out yet. Every moment is too precious for that – especially our final shabbat together.
Looking forward to telling you all about it!
Shabbat Shalom to each and every one of you!
Best regards,
Manu & Avi
