Dear Parents,
This morning we participated in Dialogue in the Dark, colloquially known as the Blind Museum. We moved from room to room in complete darkness, exploring the environment with sound, touch, and smell. After, we spoke with our guides about their personal experiences, challenges, and success as a visually impaired person. After learning about overcoming personal challenges, we toured Shafdan, which is an ecobiological industrial triumph. We learned about how through a massive network of deep laid pipes, Israel recycles over 80 percent of their waste water into drinkable water. It was really fascinating. Then, we toured the outdoor facility and plugged our noses becuase it really stunk! Next, we went to tour Bar Illan University. We sat in a class and learned, first hand, how university style debate about Israel goes down in a classroom. We really got involved, especially because the facilitator tactfully played the point of view of the opposition. It was wonderful to hear our participants defend Israel! After dinner, we had the pleasure of hearing from Sheldon Shulman, who explained to us the root of the conflict in the Middle East.
Best,
Yoni
