Tel Aviv and Yerushalayim- July 22, 2012

We’re finally together again!

Once we had gone through our first complete count-off in over 48 hrs, we hit the road again! We picked up the majority of the bus from Tel Aviv and then made our way to the neighboring community called Cholon (where our medic, Menachem, is from). Cholon is probably most known for its renowned Blind Museum: Dialogue in the Dark. There we learned to use various senses other than sight to get through the seeming maze of the museum. Of course we had the help of our guides. As soon as our eyes adjusted to the light, we ate lunch in the park adjacent to the museum. We then made our way back to Jerusalem to partake in the sights and smells of Machane Yehuda shuk- the open market of jerusalem. There we had the option of purchasing delicious food and treats or just navigating through the crowds and taking in the scenes. Once we had our fill of rugalach from marzipan and refreshing slushies, we reconvened further downtown to watch a movie about the history of Jerusalem over the past 2,000 years. It was really cool because it was set up like a time elevator where the seats moved as if we were actually traveling through time. We quite literally felt the shakes and trembles that Jerusalem felt over the centuries of exile. From the movie we came to Yad Binyamin, a small community located just between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. We unloaded the bus and had preparations for dinner. After dinner we had a bracha party! We learned about different blessings which we recite over numerous foods and drink and the power that each blessing possesses. It was a really incredible experience and hopefully we’ll continue to learn more.
