Today we started off an amazing day with a tour through the old city of Tzipori where the oral Torah was written! Our goal was to look for signs of Jewish life there. We found a menorah engraved into the stone on the floor. Why out of all Jewish symbols, a menorah? A menorah is a symbol of light and hope. This is a constant symbol for the Jewish people who overcomes challenges in the darkest of places.
After we left Tzipori, we went to a place called Kfar Kedem where we learned more about ancient Israrel. We got the opportunity to ride donkeys around the area, one would lead the donkey and the other would be able to ride it. We kept switching people so that everyone would get to enjoy the experience. We then learned how to make pitas from scratch and got to make some of our own and they were absolutely delicious! For lunch, we were treated to a great Israeli styled lunch by the people of Kfar Kedem.
We then headed to a place called Ptil Tchelet where we learned about how the blue dye for the tzitzit is extracted from a snail. After watching a very interesting video we headed to the shore of the Mediterranean Sea to snorkel and look for these unique snails. Afterwards we made the dye and got to dip the wool in it and watch it turn a beautiful shade of blue. We then headed to the next hotel in Yad Binyamin where we had dinner and settled into our new rooms.
We ended the day with a great and meaningful evening program where the boys and the girls separated and we participated in fun bonding activities.
