Yesterday (Sunday, July 3) we climbed Mt. Giliboon. It was an absolutely amazing site to see! We first walked on the top of it where we saw abandon Syrian officer buildings. It was actually really fascinating. Then we went down the mountain. It was an incredible view. Around the mountain was sandy and desolate, just rocks and ruble. But inside the valley? Beautiful greenery, waterfalls and flowers blooming. It was absolutely amazing!
During lunch time we feasted on yummy pizza and were sitting near an abandoned tank. We gathered around it and started to learn about the Yom Kippur war and how this Syrian war tank played a part. We learned that our bus driver, Yossi, actually fought in that war. We had the privilege of hearing him explain what it was actually like fighting in that war. It really was surprising to see that our own bus driver fought in that war! He told us that a lot of people over the age of 60 actually contributed to many important Israeli wars. It was truly enlightening to hear it not only from somebody who was actually in the war but, from somebody who we have grown to become so fond of.
Overall that day was actually really exciting. Can’t wait to see what is to come!
